V Festival sideshows announced

We all know V Festival is the only place to catch The Killers, but some of the line-up’s other stars will be doing sideshows. Sure to inspire the most feverish rush for tickets is the lager-raising double-bill of Kaiser Chiefs and Razorlight. Expect a hearty English ex-pat contingent to contend for space with the bands’ Australian fans.

Then there’s Mercury Prize victors Elbow in Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane. All shows go on sale Thursday 5 February, so you best start working out how you're going to get a hold of some tickets.

As for the other 'unannounced' bands on the V festival bill (aka The Kills so far), wait till V announce them and they'll surely perform some sideshows too.

V Festival 2009 announces The Killers and Snow Patrol

Yabadabadooooooooooooo....................

Heading up the line-up for V Festival 2009 will be the one of the biggest acts going around today, The Killers, who will be releasing their new album 'Day and Age' in only a few days time. Along with possibly the second biggest act going around today, Snow Patrol. It was only yesterday when we mentioned that Snow Patrol would be here shortly (performing tonight in Sydney) and we were right as per usual.

Mixing it up with the big boys are recent Mercury Prize award winners Elbow and UK outfit the Kaiser Chiefs. Doing their bit for the local scene are Modular sensations and Aussie export hopefuls, Tame Impala and the boys from Melbourne, the Temper Trap.

There are more bands playing, but we only mentioned the ones worth mentioning and writing about.

Elbow win Mercury Prize Award for 2008

From a heavyweight nominations list that included Radiohead, Burial and The Last Shadow Puppets, Manchester outfit Elbow has claimed the Mercury Prize for fourth album 'The Seldom Seen Kid'.

It’s the award artists actually care about winning, so it’s no surprise Elbow frontman Guy Garvey gave a very chuffed acceptance at the London ceremony. “This is the best thing that’s ever happened to us,” he said. “We’d like to dedicate this award to [deceased former band member] Brian Clancy, one of the greatest men who ever lived. Thank you very much and have a top evening!”

Nice one Elbow. Sadly for Radiohead, this is the fourth time they’ve been nominated and haven’t won.

Massive Attack, Hot Chip and Fatboy Slim announced for Glastonbury

Massive Attack will appear at the Glastonbury Festival this summer, according to reports.

Scheduled to release their long-awaited new album later this year, Robert del Naja and co are set to headline the second stage. They become the latest act to confirm an appearance at the Somerset gathering, after it was announced that Kings Of Leon, Jay-Z and The Verve will headline.

Hot Chip, Fatboy Slim, Elbow, Neil Diamond, CSS, British Sea Power and Leonard Cohen are also said to be on the fill for the three-day event.Ticket registration for Glastonbury, which takes place on June 27+28+29, is now open.

Elbow set to release "The Seldom Seen Kid"

Elbow are back. Following a two year hiatus since their last UK tour in February 2006, the band return to the live circuit with a comprehensive set of UK dates in April 2008.

The band have been busy recording their 4th studio album, 'The Seldom Seen Kid’, which is released in March 2008 through Fiction Records. As with predecessor 'Leaders of the Free World’, they recorded the new album at Manchester’s Blueprint Studios but with keyboardist Craig Potter taking on production and mixing duties.Elbow are indisputably one of the UK’s most important acts of the last 10 years with Mercury nominations for debut 'Asleep in The Back’. In addition they have received a Brit Awards nomination for Best New British Act. The band can also number such luminaries as John Cale and Chris Martin as members of their hugely loyal fan base.

These shows will be a first opportunity for fans to hear tracks from the new album in a live context and the band are looking forward to getting back on the road. They are currently in live rehearsals and are promising their most spectacular shows yet.
