Green Day officially announce '21st Century Breakdown' tour of Australia

Well it's official, Green Day are touring Australia and tickets are on sale very soon.

In 2009 Green Day returned to stamp their authority on the music world releasing 21st Century Breakdown. Hailed as the jewel in an already impressive crown, 21st Century Breakdown has confirmed Green Day’s status as one of the greatest rock bands in the world.

There's only a couple of shows announced so far, but just like when they toured in 2005, expect the '21st Century Breakdown' tour to sellout in a matter of minutes and expect more shows to be announced straight after.

December 6th - Adelaide Entertainment Centre, Adelaide SA
December 8th - Brisbane Entertainment Centre, Brisbane QLD

'American Idiot' the musical?

Green Day have confirmed that their album 'American Idiot' is to be adapted for the stage.

Speaking to the New York Times, Bille Joe Armstrong said that they had teamed up with Michael Mayer for this special project. Mayer is the director of the Tony Award-winning rock musical 'Spring Awakening'. Mayer and his producing partner Tom Hulce approached Green Day for permission, revealing: "It was very much in my head all that time [during Spring Awakening]. Sometimes I really would say things like, 'Why can't this have a groove like 'Boulevard Of Broken Dreams'?"

Green Day frontman Billie Joe Armstrong added: "It doesn't make a lot of sense, but that's what I love about it. When people see it, it's going to be my wildest dream."

'American Idiot' will intially play at California's Berkley Repertory Theatre from September.

Green Day is releasing their new album titled '21st Century Breakdown' worldwide on May 15.

Green Day drop new album name at the Grammy's

Green Day dropped the name of their new album in a very matter-of-fact manner at the Grammy Awards yesterday.

Almost as an after-thought, the title of the new album was announced as '21st Century Breakdown’.

Green Day were presenting the top honor of the evening for 'Album of the Year' to Robert Plant & Alison Krauss when the title of the album was quickly mentioned with no further comment.

'21st Century Breakdown’ will be the follow-up to the band’s 'American Idiot’. It will be released in May, almost four and a half years since their last album.

Vig to produce Green Day's new album

Butch Vig has been tapped as the producer of the next Green Day album.

Vig is the founder of the band Garbage and was the producer of Nirvana’s ‘Nevermind’ and Smashing Pumpkins ‘Siamese Dream’.

This will be the first Green Day album since ‘American Idiot’. However last year they did release an album under the name Foxboro Hot Tubs. Vig’s last production was The Subways ‘All or Nothing’.

Music Universe hears that while the Green Day album is not scheduled until 2009, there may be a single before the end of this year.

Green Day or Foxboro Hot Tubs?

Green Day have posted a free, top secret new album on the internet – and you can listen to it here.

The trio have shed their punk roots to record six tracks of 1960s-flavoured rock’n’roll under the name 'Foxboro Hot Tubs'.

The chart-conquering threesome are no strangers to secret side projects having released songs before under the name 'The Network'.

Collection Stop Drop And Roll is a nifty, light-hearted suite of songs.

1. Stop Drop And Roll
2. Mother Mary
3. Ruby Room
4. Red Tide
5. Highway 1
6. She's A Saint Not A Celebrity
