19th Meredith Music Festival 2009 announces lineup

One of the best, if not the best, festival in Victoria is back. Thousands of festival goers will converge on the tiny town of Meredith this December for the annual Meredith Music Festival.

Performing for the special crowd at the 19th Meredith will be one of the best frontman's from the last twenty years. Jarvis Cocker, pom frontman of the now defunct Pulp, will be making his way downunder to treat fans to some of his new material from his latest album 'Further Complications'. Joining him will be experimental indie rockers Animal Collective. The band released one of the best albums of 2009, their 8th release, 'Merriweather Post Pavillion'(sure to make the Music Universe list at the end of the year). Pitchfork Media gave the album a 9.6 out of 10 rating, their highest score for a new release since Arcade Fire's 'Funeral' five years before.

Others of note to be making their way over to Meredith are folky-electronic, singer songwriter, Patrick Wolf (just about to release new album 'The Bachelor'), everyone's fave Paul Kelly, the delightful Sia and hard nuts Eddy Current Supression Ring.

MGMT team up with Of Montreal to produce Blikk Fang

In what could be the most intriguing combo since Jagger and Bowie teamed up, MGMT’s Andrew VanWyngarden and Of Montreal’s Kevin Barnes have announced that they’re working on a side-project called Blikk Fang. Starting as a bit of a laugh, Blikk Fang has now developed into something of a prospect for 2009.

“Me and Andrew VanWyngarden from MGMT have a project together I really want to get off the ground in 2009,” Barnes told Rolling Stone. “The stuff we’ve done so far is sort of a soulful prog.”

With “about 20 minutes of music” in the bag, barnes says that the duo are looking to recruit sought-after producer Jon Brion for some studio time. "We’ve both been travelling like crazy so it’s hard to get together. It’s kind of fun because that stuff we did months and months ago and when we get together again, we’ll have different ideas that we’re excited about… It’s probably gonna be a pretty schizophrenic, crazy album.”

Of Montreal is of course bringing its hyped-up live show here for Golden Plains in 2009, while MGMT has just said bon voyage to Australia after a round of sold out shows and Meredith Music Festival.
We here at Music Universe, can't imagine what sounds are going to be coming out from this band, but we can assue you that it will be the most warped album of 2009.

Here's Andrew (MGMT) getting together with Kevin (Of Montreal) to perform a cover of Nirvana's 'Smells Like Teen Spirit' at a recent concert (10/10).
