Sydney Festival 2009 lineup announced

The team at Music Universe have been working around the clock today. At least 3 major festival announcements in the one day!!! Just amazing. Australia is becoming a monster when it comes to music.

Anyway, this time we're going to talk about The Sydney festival, which is fast becoming one of the best festivals in the world. Curators have just emerged from behind closed doors to announce the first acts for the 2009 festival.

Nick Cave and his Bad Seeds are bringing the All Tomorrow's Parties festival to Cockatoo Island. For weeks we've known about the festival at Mt Buller, VIC, but now they have decided to extend it to NSW too. The musician behind one of the most amazing releases this year ('For Emma, Forever Ago'), Bon Iver, will be performing at the Spiegeltent. Sexy French artiste Camille will be playing some shows at City Recital Hall, as will
The Cinematic Orchestra (as mentioned a few weeks ago).

Here is the other notables on the lineup so far:

•Bill Callahan
•Bon Iver
•Camille
•The Cat Empire
•The Cinematic Orchestra
•Four Tet
•Grace Jones
•Holy Ghost!
•Matthew Herbet Big Band
•Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds
•Santogold
•Sharon Jones & the Dap-Kings
•St Vincent
•Throwing Muses

More acts are yet to be announced, especially for shows at the Becks Festival Bar.

All tickets go on sale 10 November from ticketek.

Looks like its going to be another amazing summer in Sydney.

The Cinematic Orchestra are coming to Australia in January 2009

With an immersive live show to match its landmark albums, The Cinematic Orchestra is sweeping onto our shores in January 2009.

The UK collective, headed by composer Jason Swinscoe, traverses jazz, soul, funk and electronica in its wide-ranging compositions. Its line-up is malleable, with various vocalists and instrumentalists weighing in on each record. They have teamed up with the likes of Fontella Bass, Lou Rhodes and even Patrick Watson in the past. Over countless tours, TCO has finessed its performances to a point that no two are the same.

Expect unbelievableness. Also, if you can get your hands on the album 'Ma Fluer', do so now!

Only one Australian show has been confirmed so far, at Melbourne’s Palais Theatre on Tuesday 20 January. Sydney and Adelaide shows are still to come, so watch this space.
