The lineup for this years Falls Music & Arts Festival has been leaked and let's just say it is sensational!

ALBUM REVIEW: The Temper Trap - 'Conditions'

Well it's about time. The Temper Trap have finally released their debut album 'Conditions' and my god is it a great album. Dubbed by us as one of the hot acts to breakthrough in 2009, The Temper Trap have teamed up with in-demand producer Jim Abbiss (Arctic Monkeys, The Editors, Adele, Kasabian) to ensure this debut album matched the momentum of the hype building around the band.

The Temper Trap first arrived on the scene a couple of years ago with the EP 'My Sun'. If you were one of the peeps who at the time thought "this band will be great", well you weren't wrong. Their first EP however, sounds nothing like anything you will hear on 'Conditions'. Their new album sounds a lot more polished and refined, and possibly could be the one of the best produced Aussie albums of the year.

Starting off with a fantastic first track 'Love Lost', the band lay the foundations for the rest of the album. Having seen the band live a few times, this track has all the right ingredients for the audience to be clapping in unison with one another. Don't let the title of the next tune fool you. 'Rest' ups the tempo and really allows the listener to hear the what the rest of the band members can do.

'Sweet Disposition' was the first single off the album a while ago, however it never seems to get old. Easily one of the songs of the year last year, you can hear lead singer Dougy Mandagi's vocals start to soar and shine. The Killer's sounding 'Down River' has the potential to be the next single off the album with Dougy shouting "Go, don't stop" throughout suggesting that the band are ready for worldwide domination.

It's the midway point of the album and it's time to take a breather. 'Soldier On' allows for that. Then comes 'Fader' (apparently the third single off the album) which the more and more you listen, sounds like a U2 song ready-made for mainstram radio. It's a good song, but as much as we listen to it, we can't stop cringin thinking about how uncool this song could make the band. Nevertheless 'Fools' gets us back on the how-good-is-this-album track, with a beautifully crafted, soothing tune which doesn't stop making us smile.

Starting like a crawl and building up into something explosive at the end, 'Resurrection' is one of the standout tracks because of its ultimate build up. Yet it doesn't stop there. 'Science of Fear' is next up. Some may have preferred to hear this earlier, however, it's a nice touch that this comes on towards as it is one hell of an epic song. Arguably the best track on the album (if ya can listen to the Mitsubishi remix version), this tune echoes Bloc Party and is no doubt one of the standout singles of 2009. Finishing with 'Drum Song' allows the band to have one massive jam before they sign off.

This truly is a brilliant first album from a band who we hope have a successful future. Some bands dream of debut's like this, The Temper Trap are living that dream. We can safely assume that it will definitely make Music Universe's 'Best Albums of 2009' list. We're so happy that this lived up to expectation. Nice one bruva!

NB. Some questioned our rating for the new Kasabian album. Kasabian have had three chances at producing the goods, the Temper Trap have had only one. For that reason, we've given this a higher rating.

Reading/Leeds Festival add The Living End and Temper Trap

The Reading/Leeds Festival organisers have announced even more acts to join the already impressive bill.

The Festival Republic Stage will host some of the best new bands in Britain and the world. It has been known that some of the biggest acts of today played on this stage when they were only emerging acts.

This year Marmaduke Duke, The Blackout & La Roux will be headlining the Festival Republic Stage over the three day festival. Others that will appear over the three days include some of Music Universe's hot tips for best breakthrough band of 2009 such as Amazing Baby, Hockey, Bombay Bicycle Club, The Temper Trap, as well as one of our favourite acts from 2008 - Lightspeed Champion.

Temper Trap release new single 'Science of Fear'

Every now and then you come across a new band that stands apart from the rest. A band whose songwriting belies their inexperience, a singer whose range and brilliance at once captivates and enfolds, or an energy that is impossible to ignore.

Melbourne’s The Temper Trap have been on the Music Universe radar since 2007. Named as on of the bands to watch out for in 2009, they hit the airwaves with 'My Sun' in early 2007 and in 2009 have already made their presence being felt outside of our shores.

Their epic single, ‘Sweet Disposition’ recently featured as the sound bed for the movie trailer on the latest US cult film (500) Days Of Summer which previewed to much adulation at the Sundance festival. Add to that a series of amazing international reviews and highly anticipated upcoming SXSW performances as well as a bunch of other dates across Australia (inclduing V Festival), America and the UK, things are certainly looking bright for this extraordinary young band.

They release their latest single 'Science of Fear' on April 20th. It's currently being played on Triple J and sounds unbelievable. The Temper Trap are seriously going places and you'll be able to catch them play somewhere soon.

V Festival 2009 announces The Killers and Snow Patrol

Heading up the line-up for V Festival 2009 will be the one of the biggest acts going around today, The Killers, who will be releasing their new album 'Day and Age' in only a few days time. Along with possibly the second biggest act going around today, Snow Patrol. It was only yesterday when we mentioned that Snow Patrol would be here shortly (performing tonight in Sydney) and we were right as per usual.

Mixing it up with the big boys are recent Mercury Prize award winners Elbow and UK outfit the Kaiser Chiefs. Doing their bit for the local scene are Modular sensations and Aussie export hopefuls, Tame Impala and the boys from Melbourne, the Temper Trap.

There are more bands playing, but we only mentioned the ones worth mentioning and writing about.

NeverEverLand 10th anniversary Festival

Modular have done it again. Without a doubt, this is the best indie-electro festival lineup of the summer.

In celebration of their momentous 10th anniversary, Modular have quite possibly topped last year's lineup which included Daft Punk for their first ever Australian showing. They must be smiling.

Tell me you're not excited for this announcement...........well here we go..........direct from the mouths of Modular themselves....“So how do you even begin to attempt to follow up and surpass such an event? [Daft Punk]” the NeverEverLand press release reads. “Well, you don’t. But in 1998 Modular Recordings was born, a label that in the time since has gone on to become arguably the most influential Australian independent record label of the last 5000 years, one described by the NME as the “coolest label on the planet”. To celebrate 10 years of stayin alive, this years NeverEverLand festival is the official birthday party, with a swathe of the labels biggest and best acts of the last decade on show.”

With the tour marking such a significant milestone in the label’s existence it should come as no surprise that it features all of their biggest, best and brightest stars. Standing atop the tree you’ll find The Presets, fresh from scooping the pool at the ARIA Awards. They’ll be ably supported by nu-rave icons Klaxons and Melbourne’s masters of indie dance, Cut Copy. Not to be outdone, Modular have also invited along several acts that share a similar musical vision, including disco revivalists Hercules & Love Affair of the DFA label and Erland Oye’s new project Whitest Boy Alive. My god this is going to be a spectacle.

Ok, how about Ladyhawke, The Bumblebeez, Muscles, Van She, Tame Impala, Bang Gang DJs, Ajax, Lost Valentinos, Mission Control, Temper Trap, Canyons, Pepperoni, Andee Van Damage and the Bag Raiders.
