The Kooks return to Australia

The Kooks were in Australia only a month ago but their shows sold out so fast that they had to announce a return to our shores as soon as possible. These Brighton boys were such a hit when they graced us for the first time ever, that it can only be assumed that these new shows announced will sell out in record time.

So, Britain’s Kookiest sons will be gracing our shores for the Falls and Southbound Festivals this New Years Eve and are to do two mega sideshows in Sydney and Melbourne whilst they’re here.

So, The Kooks are back and they're playing at some bigger venues this time.

Well it's about god dam time!

The Kooks have finally announced their first-ever visit to our shores this August.

The band’s second album, 'Konk', is, as good as you are going to get in terms of a sophmore effort. It builds on their precocious debut, 'Inside In/Inside Out', with a wider production palette and some spirited songwriting. A Kooks Australian tour is certainly overdue, and it seems frontman Luke Pritchard is in agreement. “We’re so excited to finally be coming to Australia and playing our live show to our fans.”

The Kooks nearly split!

Ex Kooks bassist, Max Rafferty, officially left the band in January this year, due to on off bouts of illness and absences from the band, its been revealed.

Rafferty struggled to cope with the demands of touring and recording, and allegedly he also succumbed to the slayer of many a good artist – namely, drugs. The boys knee jerk reaction veered towards splitting up, but common sense prevailed.

Dan Logan, the bass player with Cat The Dog has stepped in on a temporary basis, and may become a long term replacement for one of the Brighton band’s founder members.

New album, Konk, is due out on Monday 14 April.

The Kooks release double album - 'Rak'

To mark the release of their new album 'Konk’ on April 14th The Kooks have announced details of a special limited edition double album 'Rak’ which will be released on the same day.

'Rak’ will comprise of two discs; the full studio album 'Konk’ on one, and a second featuring seven new songs recorded live in one day at Rak Studios in North West London, plus an acoustic version of album track 'See The Sun’ and a home demo of Luke Pritchard performing new track 'Brooklyn’. All tracks are exclusive and available for the first time ever for a limited period. The tracks at Rak were recorded with Mike Crossey (Arctic Monkeys, Coral, Zutons).

The Kooks 'Always Where I Need To Be' single released

First single 'Always Where I Need To Be’ is a tumbling rocker with a 'do-do-do, do-do-do-do’ refrain that might just be the catchiest thing they’ve ever done.

The eagerly awaited new album 'Konk’ from The Kooks is released on the 14th April.

It is their second album, and the follow-up to their hugely successful 2006 debut 'Inside In/Inside Out’ which sold some two million copies worldwide.

Explaining how he came to suggest the new album title, guitarist Hugh says, 'I just started thinking how cool the studio is, and how much of a part of our sound it is.’

Kooks bassist quits band

Max Rafferty, troubled bassist for Brighton sensations The Kooks, has departed the band.

Rafferty’s reported drug problems have seen him take several time-outs from playing, but there’s no indication his permanent exit is in any way related.

“Max Rafferty has parted company with The Kooks,” a statement confirms. “The band will be continuing with the forthcoming shows. Dan Logan, bassist with local Brighton band Cat The Dog, will be filling in for the short-term.”

The Kooks are set to release a second album, Konk, in April, and have a string of sold-out UK dates stretching till the end of February.

The Kooks are putting the finishing touches on their sophomore album, which will be titled 'Konk', frontman Luke Pritchard exclusively told NME magazine.

The album is named after the London studio where the band have been recording the follow-up to 2006's 'Inside In/Inside Out' for the past seven weeks.

"(Guitarist) Hugh Harris said, 'Why don't we call it the studio name?' And we thought 'Konk' sounded right," Pritchard explained.

In addition to recording in London, the band were recently in LA working with producer Tony Hoffer, who also produced their debut album. "Tony's a genius, but this time we wanted more involvement in the production," claimed Pritchard.

Pritchard admitted that the band felt pressure to avoid falling into a sophomore slump on this album. "When we first went into the studio it was kind of weird, everyone was on edge," Pritchard said. "But after the first week we completely relaxed and had fun with it."

The band currently have 16 songs for the album that they will likely narrow down to 14. Track titles include: 'See The Sun', 'Shine On', 'Do You Wanna (Make Love To Me)', 'Disappear', 'Lonely Cat', 'Sway', and 'Stormy Weather'.

They plan to release 'Konk' in March or April 2008.

"I think we've made a dynamic album," Pritchard said. "Every song has its own character. It's a good pop album. But talk is cheap--I want everyone to hear it." explained. "We wanted a modern yet warm, roots-based sound."
