Big Day Out sideshows in full

Get out those calendars people. The full list of Big Day Out sideshows has now been announced and its time to start saving and working out when, where and which tickets you are going to be purchasing.

Earlier today Arctic Monkeys dates were announced, but who was to know that it was to be the calm before the storm. One show many have been waiting for, TV On The Radio, will be working their considerable charms on both Sydney and Melbourne. Serj Tankian (System Of A Down frontman) is set to play his first-ever solo headline shows down under, accompanied by Fantomas – a supergroup spearheaded Mike Patton (Faith No More) and Buzz Osborne (The Melvins)! Does anyone hear a Big Day Out third round announcement?

Then there’s something on the side from Dropkick Murphys, Simian Mobile Disco, Pendulum, The Ting Tings, The Black Kids, Lupe Fiasco and Hot Chip.

Make a note, in addition to their headline dates in Brisbane and Sydney, rave overlords The Prodigy have also locked in an assault on Melbourne.

Big Day Out 2nd announcement

We've all been waiting for it since the moment the first announcement was made. (click here) Who was going to be on the second announcement for Big Day Out 2009??

Well, the wait is over.

This morning the following artists were added to the Big Day Out for 2009. The frontman of System Of A Down, Mr Serj Tankjan. He recently released a solo album 'Elect The Dead' and hasn't been back to the Big Day Out stage since 2002! Look out for his awesomeness on the main stage. The old school punkers Dropkick Murphy's will be here too ripping and tearing it up. As mentioned in a previous article, Hot Chip will be performing once again. They toured the Big Day Out in 2007 and were an instant hit with the crowds. They now have three albums under their belts, so expect the dancefloor to be pumping full of classics.

Another artist who was recently here for a Big Day Out tour is back again. Lupe Fiasco will showcase his explosively cool sounds to the Australian people once more. Also, to keep those hip-hop fans smiling, turntablist Z-Trip will be hitting the decks to prove once more that he is a legend of the game.

Now, it ain't a true Big Day Out without the likes of some 'buzz' acts of the moment. The two bands on this announcement to fill that spot are The Black Kids (with their killer 'Partie Traumatic' debut album) and popular remixers Holy Ghost!

Let's not forget about the local talent. This year, the likes of The Vines, Died Pretty, The Getaway Plan, Mercy Arms, The Drones and many many more.

The Prodigy tour Australia

The Prodigy are back baby!

It’s been nearly five years since The Prodigy rocked our shores and since then they’ve been one of the most requested electronic acts to return to Australia.

With the band set to blitz Big Day Out 2009, we can now we can confirm – The Prodigy are locked for two massive sideshows in Sydney and Brisbane.

During the 90s, The Prodigy came to represent everything that was anarchic and subversive about dance and rave culture, releasing two killer albums in the form of 'Music for the Jilted Generation' and 'Fat of the Land' and produced some of the most requested tracks at clubs like 'Outer Space, No Good (Start the Dance)', 'Voodoo People', 'Breathe', 'Firestarter' and 'Smack My Bitch Up'. They’re all tunes that still get a massive response even more than a decade after their release.

In 2003 The Prodigy released their most recent album 'Always Outnumbered, Never Outgunned' but it was arguably a flop. Nevertheless, one thing hasn’t changed, The Prodigy are still electro kings. Known across the world for their energetic live shows, it's made them one of the most highly anticipated acts on this year’s Big Day Out lineup. With the band reportedly packing a new album’s worth of material, they’re guaranteed to make the dance floors rumble.

Massive Attack, Hot Chip and Fatboy Slim announced for Glastonbury

Massive Attack will appear at the Glastonbury Festival this summer, according to reports.

Scheduled to release their long-awaited new album later this year, Robert del Naja and co are set to headline the second stage. They become the latest act to confirm an appearance at the Somerset gathering, after it was announced that Kings Of Leon, Jay-Z and The Verve will headline.

Hot Chip, Fatboy Slim, Elbow, Neil Diamond, CSS, British Sea Power and Leonard Cohen are also said to be on the fill for the three-day event.Ticket registration for Glastonbury, which takes place on June 27+28+29, is now open.

Glastonbury announces first headliners

The Verve, Kings of Leon, Hot Chip, British Sea Power, Jay-Z have all just been announced as the first headliners of this years Glastonbury festival.

But even though we knew Leonard Cohen would be touring this year, we're a little surprised to hear that the legendarily reclusive singer-songwriter's first announced gig is an appearance at England's rather gigantic Glastonbury Festival.

Surprised, and way more jealous of all Glastonbury attendees than we were before, according to the BBC, Leonard Cohen will join the aforementioned lot-- and Neil bloody Diamond!-- in pummeling the hills at Glastonbury June 27-29.

No word on any other acts yet, but this is just the calm before the storm............

Hot Chip "Made In The Dark" out Feb 5th

Inclusiveness and studio improvising were the key factors in making British electro-pop band Hot Chip's third studio record "Made in the Dark." Due out Feb. 5 via Astralwerks.

"We started the whole process when the other record ['The Warning'] was being released," says lead vocalist Alex "And for the first time, we wrote songs in band practices. For us, these subtle changes make a big difference. We went quite awhile without being inclusive, in having everyone play on the previous records."

Several tracks were done outside the confines of their home studios, also a first. "We recorded six demos in January, and that was our first experience being in a studio other than a room or a basement," Taylor explains. "I remember a lot of discussion about improvising in the studio, and listening to bands like This Heat," he continues. "We wanted to take it away from the computer; it became more about recording everything we do, and piecing it together later."

Fans of Hot Chip's club hit "Over and Over," will find similar heavy dance grooves on cuts such as the fast, guitar-driven "Out at the Pictures," and the bass-heavy "Hold On." But there's also a return to the balladry that early listeners heard on the group's first EP, "Mexico."

Although dates are still being confirmed, Hot Chip plans to kick off a massive tour Feb. 14 in the U.K., with a North American visit being planned for April.
