Here’s some tour news to make heads spin. Rock anarchists The Mars Volta are returning to our shores to promote their most unhinged, next-level album to date.
The genesis of 'The Bedlam In Goliath', the band’s fourth studio album, is uncanny even by Mars Volta standards. Here’s how the story goes. Omar Rodriguez-Lopez embarked on an impromptu 10-day trip to Israel (of course), where he bought bandmate Cedric Bixler-Zavala a Ouija board they named the Soothsayer. Playing with the gift while on tour with the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Omar and Cedric began to experience otherworldly occurrences. Their studio flooded, the band’s bass player contracted a rare blood disease, recordings were lost and one of the usually-dependable engineers tried to destroy the completed files. 'The Bedlam Of Goliath' was recorded anyway, and it’s as crazed and brilliant as you’d expect.
With the all that chaos feeding into the record, you can be sure none of the Mars Volta’s electric, urgent stage presence has been lost. The seven-man band still swears by its live show and will surely not fail to impress. After their last visit left the country reeling, expect this tour to be another visceral experience.
