The very fact that Smashing Pumpkins have reformed brings a tear to the eyes of most music lovers – so the notion of seeing them live is enough to cause hysterical crying from the average punter. Now news that the Pumpkins are serving up sideshows to their V Festival appearance will be enough to get most of us running into the streets crying in sheer jubilation. Expect pandemonium.
Ever since the Chicago band first landed on the scene back in 1988 with their best selling album Gish, Smashing Pumpkins have been at the fore of the alt rock scene. With albums such as Siamese Dream and Mellon Collie and The Infinite Sadness, the Smashing Pumpkins are already set in music history for timeless albums. When the band took an extended hiatus from the year 2000, tears were shed – with many thinking this was the end of Smashing Pumpkins. When the band reemerged in 2007 with a new album Zeitgeist it debuted in the top ten in the US and Australia and heralded the return of one of alt rock’s most beloved acts.
The Smashing Pumpkins undertook an extensive worldwide tour throughout 2007 to introduce fans to the live experience of Zeitgeist and reacquaint them with why this band are held in such high regard as a live force. Now Aussie fans will finally get a taste of the new Smashing Pumpkins live experience.
