Japan's Fuji Rock & Summersonic Festivals = Splendour in the Grass?

Remember how we said we would talk about a few of the international festivals happening this year? Well, another two we'd like to mention is the Fuji Rock Festival and Summersonic Festival. Not only are they Japan's best and only festivals, but they could also give us a few clues as to who could come down for Splendour in the Grass as the two festivals occur within a few days of each other.

The lineup for this years Fuji Rock festival (July 24th-26th) includes acts such as Animal Collective, Ben Harper and The Relentless 7, Diplo, Easy Star All Stars, Franz Ferdinand, Jeff Lang, The Killers, m83, Oasis, Peaches, Polysics, Public Enemy, Royksopp, Simian Mobile Disco, Weezer and many many more.

A week post Splendour is the Summersonic festival held in Japan too (Aug 7th-9th). Now this is also a monster festival which never seems to have a disappointing lineup. It also gives better idea for Splendour's lineup as it doesnt clash with the festival, unlike Fuji does. This year they have got the likes of Linkin Park, My Chemical Romance, Nine Inch Nails, The Flaming Lips, Aphex Twin, CSS, Klaxons, Mogwai, Placebo, Sonic Youth, Soulwax, Girl Talk, Mando Diao, Matisyahu, Metronomy, Mew, Mercury Rev, N.A.S.A, Red Light Company and a stupid amount more.

Now, for those trying to calculate who could come to Splendour from these lineups, well Music Universe have already done it for you. Ben Harper, Easy Star All Stars, Franz Ferdinand, The Killers, m83 and Simian Mobile Disco can almost be written off from the lineup from Fuji. Nine inch Nails, Flaming Lips, CSS, Klaxons, The Ting Tings, Phoenix, Girl Talk and possibly Mercury Rev can be erased from the Summersonic lineup.

So, there's a huge huge chance that this years Splendour (held over the July 25th-26th weekend) could include Oasis, Placebo, Sonic Youth, Weezer, Royksopp, Phoenix, Peaches and who knows who else. For us at Music Universe, we will pray twice a day for Mew to make their first appearance in Australia.

By the way, quick congratulations goes out to Tame Impala and Temper Trap for getting onto the Summersonic festival bill. Nice one!
