Wolfmother have given fans the chance to download one of their new songs for free.
The track, 'Back Round', is the group's first release since bassist Chris Ross and drummer Myles Heskett quit last summer. The song can be downloaded now from Wolfmother's official website.
After seeing the band absolutely kill it at Sound Relief and the Clipsal 500, it is clear that frontman Andrew Stockdale is happy with how things have worked out. Let's hope that Wolfmother can be that formidable force once again and take over the world. However, I'm not putting my money where my mouth is just yet.
Wolfmother are currently recording their second album alongside producer Alan Moulder in Los Angeles.
The serious alt-rockers Kasabian are set to release their third album on June 8th.
Titled 'The West Rider Pauper Lunatic Asylum', the album features a cameo appearance by actress Rosario Dawson (Sin City) on the song 'West Riding Silver Bullet'.
Kasabian have such a strong following that even the likes of Jay-Z and Kanye have spoken of their desire to work with the band in the future.
The album has been produced by guitarist Serge Pizzorno and Gorillaz collaborator Dan The Automator. To hear their first single off the album 'Vlad The Impaler', fans will be able to download the song from March 31st to midnight April 3rd via the band's official website.
The official first single off the album 'Fire' will be released commercially on June 1st.
Excitingly, The Strokes can confirm that they've completed three new songs, frontman Julian Casablancas has revealed.
In an interview with Rolling Stone, Casablancas said the new material had “a '70s vibe, like Thin Lizzy or Elvis Costello.
“But then some of it is bizarre music from the future that we're trying to tone down to sound catchy," he added. "So we're trapped between the future and the '70s."
Casablancas also revealed that the each band member had become more open in the studio than on their previous albums.
"We didn't used to be honest - there would always be mini feuds over stupid shit,” he said.
“Now, if Nick [Valensi] and Fab [Moretti] or anyone are saying they like it fast or slow, we'll talk about it, as opposed to saying, 'Well, I never liked you sister'." Meanwhile, The Strokes' manager Ryan Gentles said that, despite the band's progress, it was unlikely their new album would arrive in 2009.
"No recording studio time has been booked yet, as they sketch out the blueprints of new songs and fine-tune plans in their rehearsal space, but it will undoubtedly be all mapped out and etched in stone at some point in the not-too-distant future," he said in a fan mailout.
“I wish I could tell you that this definitely meant we can expect an album release date before the end of 2009, but it's just too soon to speculate on that for sure yet. One way or another...suffice to say, the work has begun!"
The Strokes' have released three albums so far, their last album being 'First Impressions Of Earth', released in 2006.
Whilst we're on the subject of festivals, there's obviously a lot of festivals that occur outside of Australia and we can't talk about every single one. So the team at Music Universe got together over a coffee and many cigarettes and made a list of festivals to mention on the site.
We just wrote about the Reading/Leeds festival, mentioned bits n pieces about Glastonbury recently and now we are going to tell you who's playing at the Roskilde festival.
Why does Europe get all the good festivals? Performing at this years Roskilde will be the likes of Lily Allen, Amadou & Mariam, Coldplay, Dungen, Eagles of Death Metal, Fleet Foxes, Freindly Fires, Fucked Up, Madness, The Mars Volta, Nine Inch Nails, Oasis, Pet Shop Boys, Royksopp, Kanye West, Frightened Rabbit and so many more.
Roskilde is being held over the weekend of July 2nd-5th. Just head to Copenhagen (Denmark) if interested, trust me you'll know which way to go once there, just follow the herd.
We'll let you know over the next few weeks of the other festival we think you guys might be interested in hearing about. Watch this space.....
In what could potentially be one of the greatest lineups of the year, rock legends Radiohead have announced that they're hitting the road again and are going to play at this year's Reading/Leeds Festival.
Also on the bill are the likes of Kings of Leon, Arctic Monkeys, The Prodigy, Bloc Party, Placebo, Kaiser Chiefs, Maximo Park and the Yeah Yeah Yeahs.
Just in case that wasn't enough to get your pallet watering, the organisers have also lined up Ian Brown, Vampire Weekend, Eagles of Death Metal, Glasvegas, The Gossip, Jamie T, Friendly Fires, White Lies and the beautiful Florence and The Machine.
More artists have been announced, but they aren't getting a mention on this website because we at Music Universe only talk about music worth listening too. There will be further announcements over the next few months and we will let you know as soon as we hear.
So, buy a ticket (hurry they're on sale now), book a flight and get ready, because this year's Reading/Leeds music festival is going to be ridic.
Green Day have confirmed that their album 'American Idiot' is to be adapted for the stage.
Speaking to the New York Times, Bille Joe Armstrong said that they had teamed up with Michael Mayer for this special project. Mayer is the director of the Tony Award-winning rock musical 'Spring Awakening'. Mayer and his producing partner Tom Hulce approached Green Day for permission, revealing: "It was very much in my head all that time [during Spring Awakening]. Sometimes I really would say things like, 'Why can't this have a groove like 'Boulevard Of Broken Dreams'?"
Green Day frontman Billie Joe Armstrong added: "It doesn't make a lot of sense, but that's what I love about it. When people see it, it's going to be my wildest dream."
'American Idiot' will intially play at California's Berkley Repertory Theatre from September.
Green Day is releasing their new album titled '21st Century Breakdown' worldwide on May 15.
Florence and the Machine have named their debut album, 'Lungs'.
Music Universe marked this act as one of the top acts to breakthrough in 2009 (click here). They just make beautiful soulful music. We have been listening to their demo's and early release tracks for months now and just salivate at the thought of their debut album.
The record, which is due out in June, has been produced by James Ford and Paul Epworth.
Florence Welch told BBC 6Music that she settled on the title when she “just sort of thought of how when you’re a singer it’s all about controlling your lungs and they become part of your body’s machinery.
“It’s all about controlling your air and they’re so central to singing. I’ve just become really obsessed with them as an image but also they’re kind of weird and fleshy. They’re all over the place.”
The album will also contain a track entitled 'Between Two Lungs'. If you can, do yourself a favour and go and listen to their previously released songs, 'Dog Days Are Over', 'Kiss With A Fist' and even their cover version of Cold War Kid's 'Hospital Beds'.
Placebo have unveiled the full tracklisting for their forthcoming album 'Battle For The Sun'. Have we at Music Universe told you yet how excited we are by this? Note that they have a new drummer too (pictured above).
The album, released on June 8th, was recorded over three months with producer Dave Bottrill in Toronto, Canada and mixed in London by Alan Moulder.
Singer Brian Molko said in a statement that he believed the record was the first time the band had used an album to tell a story.
“Our previous releases were really only collections of songs and even though the songs are ordered according to the musical flow, I hope that if you listen hard enough to the words that some kind of discernible thematic unity will begin to emerge,” he said.
Can't wait for another tour.......maybe Splendour again????
The tracklisting is:
'Kitty Litter' 'Ashtray Heart' 'Battle For The Sun' 'For What It’s Worth' 'Devil In The Details' 'Bright Lights' 'Speak In Tongues' 'The Never-Ending Why' 'Julien' 'Happy You're Gone' 'Breathe Underwater' 'Come Undone' 'Kings Of Medicine'
John Butler has has decided to get himself a new band in his ever evolving line-up for “artistic reasons”, leaving drummer Michael Barker and bass player Shannon Birchall behind. Barker and Birchall have been with Butler for six years.
As of yet there is no word of their replacements, but Butler says: ““Michael and Shannon have been by far the best line up I have performed with in The John Butler Trio to date. They have been a pleasure to live, love, learn, record and tour with. Their professionalism, musicianship, and commitment have been unwavering and for that and a whole lot more I am truly thankful.”
Fans of this current line-up have four chances left to see them in action. Check ‘em out at:

Yeah Yeah Yeahs singer Karen O has described the advance leak of the band's new album as being “a bit like when you get punched in the stomach”.
The band were forced to bring the digital release date of 'It's Blitz' forward to March 9th after it leaked online in February. The album had originally been scheduled for release on both digital and physical formats in April. The album landed on the desk at Music Universe about a week or so ago, we put it straight into the stereo and it has been on repeat ever since.
Speaking to the BBC, Karen O said the music industry had experienced a “radical” change since their last album, 'Show Your Bones', came out in 2006.
“There's been so much radical change in the way people are receiving their music and it's snowballed since our last record,” she said, “and has been really hard for us to get our head around.”
Guitarist and keyboard player Nick Zinner said he believed the “rules and games have changed”.
“I guess the need for immediate gratification has got a lot stronger. I've found that in how I look for music too. It's how things are now,” he said. “There's so much more music and so many more bands, and everybody's scrambling. All the new bands and all the bands that have been around for a while, we're all at the same level. We're all just tracks on a blog, links on a list.”
Physical copies of 'It's Blitz' will be released on April 6th in the UK, a day later in the US and on the 14th in Australia.

Pearl Jam frontman Eddie Vedder has claimed the late Kurt Cobain didn't understand the kind of music Pearl Jam were making, accusing them of being careerists in the beginning of their career.
Cobain, frontman of Nirvana, was one of Pearl Jam's most vocal critics when their 1991 album 'Ten' went in at number two on the US Billboard album chart. At the time, Cobain said the group were “pioneering a corporate, alternative and cock-rock fusion”. In 1993, Pearl Jam's follow-up 'V' outsold Nirvana's third album 'In Utero' by almost five copies to one.
Speaking to The Sun newspaper about Cobain's comments, Vedder said: “I don’t think Kurt understood us at the time, but we became friends and I’m glad we had some of the great conversations we had, that I’m always going to keep up here.
“I don’t talk too much about him in respect to Krist (Novoselic) and Dave (Grohl) and I know he said that early stuff about not liking us. But there’s a couple of complimentary things that he said in public about me as a human being, which I’m proud exist. But if Kurt were around today, I know he’d say to me, ‘Well, you turned out OK'.”
Pearl Jam are re-issuing 'Ten' tomorrow worldwide. The album includes a new mix by producer Brendan O'Brien and is available in a number of different formats.
Last night, Vampire Weekend officially debuted their new song 'White Sky' on the Jimmy Fallon show. Ezra Koenig’s vocals were perfect and the whole band seemed to be clicking and in fine form. The song has been floating on the net for a little bit now. The original song floating around was a wild, rollicking party song, with wild-but-controlled vocals and a clap-heavy, keyboard-driven beat that sounded like Kanye West having some fun with his drum machine from the 808's album.
However, last night was a bit different. The boys turned the song into a slow, rather dull tune. It was still sweet, sure, it used the string section to great effect, and it will sound great on the record as an easy listen on the ears. But it certainly wasn’t the wild, upbeat Vampire Weekend song I heard a few weeks ago. I still believe that their next album will be great, if not better than their first.
Earth Hour 2009 is coming up on Saturday 28th of March and Melbourne Zoo and Roar Sounds are teaming up together to hold a live acoustic concert in the lush surrounds of the Zoo gardens and exotic animals with Melbourne’s finest blues n’ roots performers, C.W. Stoneking & The Primitive Horn Orchestra, as headliner.

Music Universe are giving away a couple of double passes to the gig. In order to get your dirty hands on one of them it's simple. Just subscribe today and go in the running to win!!! Chuck your email into the box on the top left side of the page or click here.

Accompanied with his trusty steel bodied dobro guitar, tenor banjo and brass band, the 'Primitive Horn Orchestra' and Stoneking's songs range in style from lonesome field holler blues, to cheeky hokum duets, to full blown 'jungle jazz' epics. Battles are returning!!!! From 26 May to 14 June, the inaugural Luminous Festival will take over the Sydney Opera House with “a plethora of music acts, alongside public talks and spectacular light and art installations”.
The event is curated by none other than Brian Eno, and will feature marquee performances from Battles, Ladytron, Lee ‘Scratch’ Perry, Damien Dempsey, Reggie Watts, Underworld frontman Karl Hyde and many many more.
The Luminous Festival is launching as part of 'Vivid Sydney', a city-wide mid-year festival. The gigs will happen in the Opera House’s iconic music spaces: the Opera Theatre, Playhouse and Utzon Room. Eno will close the festival with 'Pure Scenius', a collaborative performance featuring Leo Abrahams and Karl Hyde.
After many years of being 'that hidden laneway bar' and many festivals over the years, St Jerome’s days in Caledonian Lane, Melbourne are numbered.
The home of the Laneway festival and scene of many a hazy Melbourne night is being forced out by Myer’s $1.1 billion expansion, which will turn the bar into a new loading dock.
Jerome Borazio, the owner of the bar and co-director of the St Jerome’s Laneway Festival, plans to lease an old Harley-Davidson assembly factory in Little Lonsdale Street for St Jerome’s version two – which will be called ‘St Jerome’s Preston School of Industry’.
The new name refers to the school for delinquents attended by Beach Boys’ collaborator Charles Manson. Preston School of Industry was also the band founded by guitarist Spiral Stairs – the Laneway festival’s ‘Director of Directions’ – after he left Pavement.
To mark the end of Caledonian Lane shenanigans, St Jerome’s hosts a two-week wake – the Last Days carnival. The fortnight will feature a free show from late ‘70s / early ‘80s synth-punk legends the Primitive Calculators on Wednesday 25th of March and culminate with the ‘Tent Down, Circus Over’ party on Saturday the 28th of March.
It has taken us five years, but at long last The Flaming Lips are returning to Australia. Who remembers the last time they performed here when they performed in animal suits and Wayne Coyne leapt into the crowd in a man-sized plastic bubble.
There is no easy way to describe a live show from Oklahoma’s psych-rock Gods. Their visceral live performances even led Q Music to declare The Flaming Lips one of their ‘50 Bands To See Before You Die’.
Since their last trip to our shores the band have released 2006’s 'At War With The Mystics' and even a movie in 2008, 'Christmas On Mars' – a film which not only stared the band and their friends but which was written and directed entirely by Coyne. With a new album scheduled for release in June these Flaming Lips shows are simply not to be missed.

The team at Music Universe have been sitting patiently waiting for this news to hit their desks. Finally, finally, finally, Placebo have confirmed that they will release their new album on June 8th.
The album, entitled 'Battle For The Sun', is the group's first new studio effort since 2006's epic album 'Meds'.
'Battle For The Sun' was recorded over three months with producer Dave Bottrill (the man behind Tool’s 'Ænima' and 'Lateralus' and Silverchair’s 'Diorama' albums) in Toronto, Canada and mixed in London by Alan Moulder.
Singer Brian Molko said the band had made an album “about choosing life, about choosing to live, about stepping out of the darkness and into the light”.
He added: “Not necessarily turning your back on the darkness because it’s there, it’s essential; it’s a part of who you are, but more about the choice of standing in the sunlight instead.”
This is the first album recorded with new drummer Steve Forrest.
Bloc Party are to release a remixed edition of their latest album 'Intimacy' on May 11th. The band released a remix album of 'Silent Alarm' a few years ago to some glowing reviews.
This album includes remixes from the likes of Villains, Filthy Dukes and Mogwai. An Armand Van Helden re-working of 'Signs', which also features on the album, will be released as a single on April 27th.
The Groovin’ The Moo festival looks set to get in bigger in 2009, with the Maitland installment already confirmed as being sold out. For those already attening, or those thinking about going, two new acts have now been added to the already fantastic line-up.
Hard-rocking four-piece Mammal and 2008's breakthrough act Children Collide will be performing. They join the likes of The Living End, Ratatat, The Grates, Okkervil River, Hilltop Hoods and De La Soul on the regional trail.

On the near eve of releasing his solo album 'Grace/Wasteland', the man who likes to be known as Mr Peter (not Pete) Doherty now, has come out of his over-cracked shell to reveal how he once sold acid to The Strokes.
"I actually already knew them before I was in a band or anything," he explained to Shortlist Magazine. "It was back when I was working in a bar pulling pints. I used to sell a few little things on the side, you know?
"They were on their first tour, and were like just a few American lads in London looking for a good time. They met a friend of mine, who said I could get them a few bits and bobs. I think I sold them a load of acid, they gave me tickets to their gig, I got them some more acid and it went from there."
It's nice to know how Pete makes friends, and why he might have so many of them.
Peter Doherty releases his solo album, 'Grace/Wastelands', on Monday (March 16).
Jack White (The White Stripes) has begun yet another new band. This time he has joined forces with The Kills hottie, Alison Mosshart, along with Jack's Raconteurs/Saboteurs band mates Dean Fertita (QOTSA) and Jack Lawrence (The Greenhornes). Sounds like a mini supergroup to me. Anyhow, they are known as The Dead Weather.
The Dead Weather, played a launch party concert the other night in Nashville, to which one party guest described them as "a stripped-down version of the White Stripes". They are set to release their debut album 'Horehound' on Jack's Third Man record label in June.
Not to worry White Stripes fans, despite launching his new project, Jack has no plans to turn his back on his other groups (White Stripes and Raconteurs).
Speaking about the White Stripes, his manager Ian Mordona said: "They've made a movie and there will be a new album out, probably next year." Movie? God knows what thats going to be like, but if its anything like their scene from the movie 'Coffee and Ciggarettes', we're in for a strange, strange film.
Andy Burrows has quit Razorlight after a huge bust-up with Johnny Borrell.
Burrows reportedly decided to leave the group after growing tired of the frontman's diva antics during a recent promotional trip to the US.
A source said: "Andy has had enough of Johnny. They've always had a turbulent relationship - not least over who was behind their number one single 'America'. Apparently, both Burrows and Borrell co-wrote the song.
The source told the Sun newspaper: "Johnny likes to think he is the driving force behind Razorlight's success but Andy doesn't see it that way. He feels he never gets the recognition he deserves and is the only one in the band who will stand up to Johnny.
"He gets really embarrassed when he thinks Johnny is acting up and tells him as much. Johnny doesn't appreciate the criticism."
Johnny Borrell has always been a show pony and has always craved the attention, so this comes as no surprise to Music Universe. Just a shame it had to happen only one month before they tour Australia.
David 'Skully' Sullivan-Kaplan - who drummed for the band at a concert in Wolverhampton earlier this week - will replace Andy.
The Eagles are coming back to Australia. We ain't talking about that band from the 70's, we're talking about the only god dam Eagles one should know about. We're talking about the Eagles of Death Metal baby. So parents, lock up your daughters, because Jesse “Boots Electric” Hughes is bringing his Eagles Of Death Metal back to A town again.
Hughes and his sexy partner in crime Josh “Baby Duck” Hommes (aka lead singer of Queens Of The Stone Age) unleashed their third album 'Heart On' last year proving that they still have what it takes to make some of the sexiest, ass-shaking, foot-stomping rock n roll going around.
Get ready to have your socks blown off.

It’s certainly been a huge and jam packed 18 months for The Presets. Their second album release, 'Apocalypso' was epic. It sold a zillion copies, was plastered all over radio airwaves and television ads and built them a fanbase that has probably reached Mt Everest heights.
Before Kim and Julian take a well earned rest from the spotlight and lock themselves away to begin work on album number three they’re heading out on one last tour. The Presets will be playing all over the country and at some of the more larger venues they've ever played at on a headline tour.
Many of the shows are all ages, and tickets are set to go on sale Wednesday March 18th. Supports include Architecture In Helsinki, Van She and Wolf & Cub, so stay tuned for details on specific lineups for each show in the coming weeks.
Keane are coming back to Australia this April. It’s been five years since they visited Australia and they've produced two albums during the period.
In 2008 Keane released their third album, 'Perfect Symmetry', which sold extremely well and no doubt gained them a few more fans across the world. They’ll play relatively intimate shows in Perth, Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane. No doubt about it, these shows will sell out.
Catch Keane at the following shows in April. Tickets on sale Friday 13 March.
Monday April 13 – Metropolis, Fremantle Thursday April 16 – Palace Theatre, Melbourne Friday April 17 – The Metro Theatre, Sydney Monday April 20 – The Tivoli, Brisbane
After many years of abandoning Australia since their last performance at Livid festival in 2002, And You Will Know Us By The Trail of Dead are finally coming back to perform. Often abbreviated to Trail Of Dead, this bunch of Texans are going to bring their terrifying, anarchic live show to Australia this May.
Since their formation in ‘94, the group have released five albums, achieved overwhelming acclaim and developed a vast fanbase in their 15 years of existence. Their 2002 classic and probably their best album, 'Source Codes & Tags', famously scored a rare 10/10 on Pitchfork, earning the description: “dense, beautiful, intricate, haunting, explosive, and dangerous, this is everything rock music aspires to be.”
They are about to release their sixth album ‘The Century Of Self’, and we at Music Universe have been playing it non stop. Let's just say that we are very big fans of this group and pity those that don't know about them.
Thurs 28 May – The Zoo, Brisbane Fri 29 May – The Forum, Sydney Sat May 30th - Corner Hotel, Melbourne VIC
Every now and then you come across a new band that stands apart from the rest. A band whose songwriting belies their inexperience, a singer whose range and brilliance at once captivates and enfolds, or an energy that is impossible to ignore.
Melbourne’s The Temper Trap have been on the Music Universe radar since 2007. Named as on of the bands to watch out for in 2009, they hit the airwaves with 'My Sun' in early 2007 and in 2009 have already made their presence being felt outside of our shores.
Their epic single, ‘Sweet Disposition’ recently featured as the sound bed for the movie trailer on the latest US cult film (500) Days Of Summer which previewed to much adulation at the Sundance festival. Add to that a series of amazing international reviews and highly anticipated upcoming SXSW performances as well as a bunch of other dates across Australia (inclduing V Festival), America and the UK, things are certainly looking bright for this extraordinary young band.
They release their latest single 'Science of Fear' on April 20th. It's currently being played on Triple J and sounds unbelievable. The Temper Trap are seriously going places and you'll be able to catch them play somewhere soon.

Don't worry too much or read into this too much, Angus Stone, from duo Angus and Julia Stone, has put together a little side project called Lady of the Sunshine.
'White Rose Parade' is the first single taken from Lady of The Sunshine’s debut album 'Smoking Gun'.
'Smoking Gun' will be released April 3rd through Angus’ own label - Desert Harvest Records (in conjunction with EMI).
According to the new band’s myspace page, Angus Stone will perform guitar and vocals on the album, with Govinda Doyle on bass and drums.
Guess it ain't end of the world stuff considering their huge following amongst other countries in the world, but still, it's the reason why that makes this so interesting.
A statement was issued on behalf of the band saying that Chinese government officials had revoked their performance license because of their links to the Free Tibet campaign. It said that the Chinese government had discovered that guitarist Noel Gallagher had played a Free Tibet Benefit Concert in 1997 and so was deemed "unsuitable" to perform in the Chinese Republic. They are the latest in a growing line of musicians, including Jay-Z and Britney Spears, who have been barred from performing in China. Most recently, Bjork angered Chinese officials after she shouted “Tibet, Tibet” at the end of a concert in the country.
Other fans in the region have no fear, the rest of the South East Asian leg of the band's tour, including the Hong Kong show, will go ahead as planned.
