Paolo Nutini returns to Australia

Some more news from the Frontier Touring office, Paolo Nutini is coming to tour Australia on a very short tour.

Performing shows only in Melbourne and Sydney, Scotland’s Paolo Nutini first hit the music scene at the tender age of 19, thanks to the release of his 2006 'These Streets' album. Selling in excess of two million albums worldwide, Paolo quickly established himself as one of this decade’s most intriguing young talents.

After touring Australia back in 2007, Paolo returns to Australia in support of his sophomore effort 'Sunny Side Up'. The album debuted at #1 on the UK chart and has remained in the Top 5 since it’s release. All Music Guide described the album as “one that leaves its generational competition in the dust and is wise beyond this songwriter's years…”

Paolo's shows tend to sell out within only a few minutes, so ensure you secure your tickets to see this exceptional singer/songwriter immediately to avoid disappointment.

Dates:
Oct 27 - The Forum, Melbourne VIC
Oct 30 - Enmore Theatre, Sydney NSW

Them Crooked Vultures coming to Australia?

To those that have been wishing that Them Crooked Vultures will make their way across the world to Australia, it looks like your dream might come true.

If you have a geez over at the Frontier Touring website, you'll notice a countdown clock with the band's logo.

Now nothing official has been announced yet, but we think this might be counting down towards that exciting announcement.

The super, fantasically, exciting team of Josh Homme, John Paul Jones and Dave Grohl have already been performing at some of the big festivals overseas and we have already marked this down as one of the best gigs of 2010.

More to follow....

Are Kaiser Chiefs pulling an Oasis?

Rumours have been circulating around the web that the Kaiser Chiefs are splitting. Well like most rumours, they're 'apparently' not true.

The Kaiser Cheifs dismissed speculation that their performances at last weekend's Reading and Leeds festivals would be their last, and said their diary is empty because they are going to take a well-earned holiday. Lead singer, Ricky Wilson defended his band and reinforced the truth of the matter.

"It's our last show for the foreseeable future, so it's a bit of an abyss. You think if it was our last one ever, we wouldn't be having a good time? I don't think bands split up when they're still good friends and having a good time with each other.

"We just haven't written anything new and we haven't booked anything. If people look at your diary and see you haven't booked anything, they think you're stopping. We've been on tour for five years and we want to spend some of our money on air travel!

"I never really saw the point of going on holiday before. but last week I was in Tel Aviv and went in the sea. I thought, Oh, I get it now, it's fun." Yes Ricky, the Dead Sea is fun for a bit, but then you get salt in your eyes and you can't see for hours and it no longer becomes fun. Sorry, just had a flashback.

Ricky insisted that the band just don't want to feel pressured to release something just for the sake of it alla Coldplay's 'X&Y' album.

So, when all is said and done, we tend to have to believe what Ricky says. However, just a week ago, Liam Gallagher pulled the plug on the V Festival gig stating that he was unwell with Viral Laryngitis, when in fact it was probably because Oasis were about to pull the plug on their band. Only time will tell.

The Pixies announce 'The Doolittle' Australia tour

The Pixies are returning to Australia for the first time since 2007 to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the release of their classic 1989 album, 'Doolittle'.

On the 'Doolittle' tour, the Pixies will perform all of the songs from 'Doolittle' and its related B-sides, as well as classics such as 'Debaser', 'Wave of Mutilation', 'Here Comes Your Man', 'Hey', and 'Gouge Away'. Looking at the dates of their gigs, it looks like we could be in store for a couple of shows in each capital city.

The group - Black Francis, Kim Deal, Joey Santiago and David Lovering - thought this was "a good opportunity to play all of the songs from that album, something we don't normally do at a regular gig." "We wanted to do something special for Doolittle's 20th anniversary," The Pixies songwriter and singer Black Francis said.

Pixies ‘Doolittle’ tour dates:

Sydney, Hordern Pavilion – Sunday March 14
Brisbane, Convention Centre – Thursday March 18
Melbourne, Festival Hall – Saturday March 20
Adelaide, Thebarton Theatre – Wednesday March 24
Perth, Belvoir Amphitheatre – Saturday March 27

Maximo Park to play Australia in November

Gee there's been a few tours announced today. In what seems like the final one for the day, Maximo Park are bringing their rocking shows back to Australia.

They were last in the country back in March 2008 for the Playground Weekender festival to support their second album 'Our Earthly Pleasures'. The follow-up to their Mercury Prize nominated debut album 'A Certain Trigger', unfortunately didn't live up to expectations. Never fear thoug, for Maximo Park are back with a new one titled 'Quicken The Heart'. Released back in May, the album was produced by Nick Launay (Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Talking Heads, Nick Cave) and has led to Clash Magazine claiming that "they haven’t lost their knack for writing an infectious tune, and the album packs more punch than their previous long-player."

Led by mercurial frontman Paul Smith, the Maximo Park live show is just amazing. Smith is always seen jumping around like an exuberant teenager and they truly put on a really fun-filled show. Definitely worth seeing.

Tickets on sale Friday 11 September.

Maximo Park are playing at the following dates:

Wednesday November 11 – Billboard, Melbourne
Thursday November 12 – The Hi Fi, Brisbane
Friday November 13 – Metro Theatre, Sydney
Sunday November 15 – Fowlers Live, Adelaide
Tuesday November 17 – Capitol, Perth

Chali 2NA to play Melbourne sideshow

The master himself, Chali 2NA, is coming downunder on the 'low:fi' tour with Nas, Qbert and MC Supernatural. Whilst in Australia, he is treating Melbourne fans to a sideshow of his own at The Esplanade Hotel.

Chali 2NA made a name for himself thanks to hip-hop legends Jurassic 5 and Latin funk band Ozomatli. His solo career began in 2004 with his 'Fish Market' mixtapes, and his long awaited solo debut 'Fish Outta Water' (been working on it since 2006) promises to mark yet another stage in Chali’s creative evolution. Released in July, you can hear a diverse range of influences on the album with thanks to collaborators including Damien and Stephen Marley, Beenie Man, Talib Kweli, Anthony Hamilton and the late great J Dilla. This album is a far cry from the usual violence, sex, pimpin', dealin', druggin', and partying dribble on most of rap albums that is out right now.

Chali 2NA live showcases his somewhat progression from the days of J5, embracing a more serious and inspired creative mission than any of his previous work. With his 4-piece band and having been in the game for ten years or so, Chali 2na, is finally ready to unleash his solo assault on Australian audiences.

Catch him on the following date:
Friday October 30 - The Espy, Melbourne VIC

Fat Freddys Drop into Australia

We've just been informed by Ash, our Kiwi correspondent, that New Zealand 7-piece roots, dub and reggae band Fat Freddys Drop are coming for a short tour of Australia this October.

The band released their second studio album 'Dr Boondigga and The Big BW' back in June and it quickly became a number-one album in New Zealand in its first week of release and was certified Platinum in just four days. The New Zealand Herald thought the album was "beautifully cruisy, at times uplifting, and, if you're patient, it occasionally gives you the shivers, man."

Thanks to their sensational live performances, Fat Freddys Drop first studio album 'Based on a True Story' went gold and number one just a day after it had been released and with very little marketing or advertising. The band is no doubt one of New Zealand’s finest exports and definitely worth catching if you haven't already.

Tickets went on sale Wednesday 26 August.

Friday 16 October – The Palace, Melbourne VIC
Saturday 17 October - The Forum, Sydney NSW
Sunday 18 October – The Forum, Sydney NSW

UPDATE: Oasis call it quits

In what clearly appears to be a dummy-spit, fuelled rage, Noel Gallagher reportedly quit Oasis because his brother Liam "jokingly suggested" he was not the father of his daughter. Bit below the belt no?

Liam, the typical Manc twat he is, apparently insinuated that Noel's nine-year-old daughter Anais was conceived when the songwriter's former wife Meg Matthews was having an affair. Ouch.

The slur outraged Noel, who branded it "unforgivable" and started screaming at his brother as the pair prepared to go onstage at Paris' Rock en Seine festival. The fight reportedly ended when Liam smashed Noel's guitar while screaming: "You're no brother of mine!" Noel stormed out of the backstage area and officially quit the band later that night.

In a statement released on the official Oasis website, he said: "It's with some sadness and great relief to tell you that I quit Oasis tonight. People will write and say what they like, but I simply could not go on working with Liam a day longer."

He later added: "The details are not important and of too great a number to list. But I feel you have the right to know that the level of verbal and violent intimidation towards me, my family, friends and comrades has become intolerable."

We have no doubt Noel will go on to record a solo record, Liam will get fat and both will continue to enjoy watching their beloved Manchester City Football Club from opposite ends of the stadium. Looking forward to your reunion tour in about five years boys.
