Rumours have been circulating around the web that the Kaiser Chiefs are splitting. Well like most rumours, they're 'apparently' not true.
The Kaiser Cheifs dismissed speculation that their performances at last weekend's Reading and Leeds festivals would be their last, and said their diary is empty because they are going to take a well-earned holiday. Lead singer, Ricky Wilson defended his band and reinforced the truth of the matter.
"It's our last show for the foreseeable future, so it's a bit of an abyss. You think if it was our last one ever, we wouldn't be having a good time? I don't think bands split up when they're still good friends and having a good time with each other.
"We just haven't written anything new and we haven't booked anything. If people look at your diary and see you haven't booked anything, they think you're stopping. We've been on tour for five years and we want to spend some of our money on air travel!
"I never really saw the point of going on holiday before. but last week I was in Tel Aviv and went in the sea. I thought, Oh, I get it now, it's fun." Yes Ricky, the Dead Sea is fun for a bit, but then you get salt in your eyes and you can't see for hours and it no longer becomes fun. Sorry, just had a flashback.
Ricky insisted that the band just don't want to feel pressured to release something just for the sake of it alla Coldplay's 'X&Y' album.
So, when all is said and done, we tend to have to believe what Ricky says. However, just a week ago, Liam Gallagher pulled the plug on the V Festival gig stating that he was unwell with Viral Laryngitis, when in fact it was probably because Oasis were about to pull the plug on their band. Only time will tell.
