Coldplay frontman Chris Martin has suggested that 'Shiver' was heavily influenced by Jeff Buckley.
In an interview with the BBC, Martin said the song (which featured on the band's debut album 'Parachutes'), was “a blatant Jeff Buckley attempt”.
"Not quite as good, that's what I think. We were 21 and he was very much a hero, and as with those things it tends to filter through,” Martin added.
Martin also said in the interview that 'Violet Hill', (track from their most recent album 'Viva La Vida or Death and All His Friends'), had been inspired by The Beatles.
Martin said the song was named after a road in London that joins onto Abbey Road - a street which has now become synonymous with The Beatles.
"'Violet Hill' is a street and it joins Abbey Road - so it's kind of a Beatles reference,” Martin told the BBC.
Coldplay were recently accused of plagarism from Joe Satriani for lifting elements of his song 'If I Could Fly' for their hit song 'Viva La Vida'. In response, their label EMI have gone and pulled all the videos off YouTube. We at Music Universe believe it's possible that Chris Martin subconsciously heard the song and regurgitated it without realising, but who cares? It happens so often in the music industry that this surely cannot be taken so seriously.
Oh yeah, did we mention how much we love Coldplay? We do.
