Of Montreal announce Australian tour

Of Montreal have just announced sideshows to coincide with their Golden Plains festival appearance. Those outside of Victoria fear not, for this mesmerizing band will be performing across most of the nation.

Of Montreal's style of music tends to be a musical experiment. Central group memeber, Kevin Barnes, likes to combine the likes of indie-pop with psychedelic music, added with a splash of glam and a touch of funk. However, the band has made well over half a dozen albums and each one sounds different to the other. Kevin also likes to mix dark, gloomy lyrics with a bouncy, upbeat melody to it. Strange....

Their latest album 'Skeletal Lamping' is amongst the mix to make this year's Best Album's list for Music Universe. It also could have the greatest CD packaging ever!!!!

When asked about the title, Barnes had this to say:

"This record is my attempt to bring all of my puzzling, contradicting, disturbing, humorous...fantasies, ruminations and observations to the surface, so that I can better dissect and understand their reason for being in my head. Hence the title, Skeletal Lamping. Lamping is the name of a rather dreadful hunting technique where hunters go into the forest at night, flood an area in light, then shoot or capture the animals as they panic and run from their hiding places."

Kevin Barnes is NOT NORMAL! To emphasize his abnormalities, he has an alter ego - George Fruit. Like Bowie with Ziggy, Fruit is a cross-dresser who appears on stage when Of Montreal perform.

On another note, Kevin Barnes has recently been collaborating with Andrew VanWyngarden from MGMT, on a project called Blikk Fang. We're thinking Jefferson Airplane, are you?

Of Montreal will put on a special show on these following dates:
Saturday 28 February – Perth International Arts Festival
Tuesday 3 March – Manning Bar, Sydney
Wednesday 4 March – The Zoo, Brisbane
Thursday 5 March – Hi Fi Bar and Ballroom, Melbourne
7-9 March – Golden Plains Festival, Meredith Supernatural Amphitheatre
