REVIEW: TV On The Radio (HiFi Bar, Melbourne, 29/01/09)

Let me set the scene for you.

Melbourne had just experienced its two hottest days in a row in nearly 150 years. The temperature had risen to 44.3 degrees by 5pm. The sweltering conditions coupled with TV On The Radio, were going to set up one hell of a sweaty night at the sold out show at Melbourne's HiFi Bar. On top of that, my gig partner in crime had fallen down his stairs earlier in the day and had back, neck and shoulder issues to deal with. This morning we found out that he actually tore six cartilages in his back, suffered a broken collarbone and is now in a neck brace. What a trooper!

So, for the first time since I saw Grinspoon play an under ages show at The Corner Hotel when I was 16, had I seen a sea of people in their singlets, shorts and thongs at an indoor gig. Even the emo makeup artists, wannabee kings of leon dressers and those wanting to look good to pick up, had left their egos at home because it was just too dam hot.

I arrived just as Wolf and Cub were playing their last tune. Ive seen them a couple of times and they never seem to disappoint. I honestly hope these guys make it somewhere someday, even if it’s somewhere like New Zealand (they gave us Shihad remember). Their final track sounded like a jumbo jet was about to land on top of the Hi Fi, just roar power made completely from having two drum kits.

I had only been inside for about 15 minutes and I had felt like I’d already lost 3 kilos just from sweat. At 10.30pm, TV On The Radio finally graced us with their presence. I have always wanted to see this band, but have never been in the right place at the right time. They began with a couple of older tracks (‘Young Liars’, ‘The Wrong Way’ and ‘Dreams’), which is totally out of the ordinary when a band tours after releasing a new album (‘Dear Science,’). However, that’s exactly what TVOTR are – left of center and unpredictable. Mixing rock, with rap, with funk and with punk, New York's TVOTR are plain and simply cool.

Early on in the set it was evident how good Tunde Adebimpe (frontman #1) was as a dancer. The moves he was pulling on the stage must have made the women sweat even more. It’s true, African-Americans are the best body movers and hip shakers in the world. As for Kyp Malone (frontman #2) and he’s beard, well it’s nothing short of absolutely mesmerizing. Oh yeah, his vocal range is sublime too. Dave Sitek (only white man) was playing his guitar with wind chimes dangling from the neck. He’s also TVOTR’s producer and recently produced Foal’s debut album, ‘Antidotes’.

I had waited almost three years to hear ‘Wolf Like Me’ delivered live and boy did they deliver. While the new material works great live, ‘Wolf Like Me’ had to be my highlight of the night. Tunde’s powerful and passionate singing was evident all night but he really gave this song his all. Gesturing to the crowd, howling, and prowling the stage, he was completely magnetic and just riveting to watch.

TVOTR did of course throw in a number of tracks off ‘Dear Science,’ including the ever-so beautiful ‘Crying’, the frenetic ‘Dancing Choose’ and their big single ‘Golden Age’. They finished their set to a rapturous applause and then came back for again an ‘unpredictable’ extended encore. The final song of the night had to be ‘Staring At The Sun’. In its live incarnation the song is more guitar-heavy (actually true of many of the songs) but equally impressive.

I left the gig a very happy and sweaty man, as I’m sure everyone else in the audience did too. Like Arcade Fire and Rage Against the Machine this time last year, TVOTR are definitely a contender for gig of the year.

Fleet Foxes aren't heading to Virgin

Just leave our kids alone Mr Branson!

After producing one of the albums of the year on the Sub Pop label, and amassing close to 200,000 copies sold, Fleet Foxes were all ways going to be the hunted and not the hunter. Like seagulls to a hot chip, major labels were always going to go after Fleet Foxes. But according to Foxes frontman Robin Pecknold, that is so never going to happen.

After reports circulated that the Fleet Foxes had signed with Virgin, Pecknold put up a MySpace blog post to stomp them down in the most unambiguous possible manner:

"So, I went to the (truly insane and heart-swelling) Dept of Eagles show at Neumo's tonight (sang along and bought a Tee) and a couple people said something about hearing we signed to Virgin Records and they are reissuing a 'special edition' of the CD LP. This is false. I think a Seattle Weekly blog post started this fire, which I will now extinguish, with this statement - 'Fleet Foxes will never, ever, under no circumstances, from now until the world chokes on gas fumes, sign to a major label. This includes all subsidiaries or permutations thereunder. Till we die.'

"I just don't see the point. Most major labels seem anti-music. We've pursued no such deal with Virgin (or been pursued to my knowledge, I think it was just a bit of news they reported) and would be idiots to be unhappy with our fam of label folks. It is true though that all copies of the CD LP will now include a free copy of the EP (like it is currently with the vinyl), but that's not a 'special limited edition,' it'll be that way in perpetuity, no extra cost or packaging change.

"That's all! Also I cut all my hair off."

Dam the PR department at Sub Pop for allowing him to cut his hair! At the same time, they're probably happy to do anything for him after the anti-majors/support-indies outburst he had. Love Fleet.

Coldplay to play at Roskilde festival

Roskilde festival have announced their first act. It's a stadium rock band who – despite having only existed for a little over 10 years – has sold more than 30 million albums. It's Coldplay.

In 2009, the band has chosen to play at only three European festivals – Roskilde, Werchter and Arras. They haven't played at Roskilde since 2003.

The four Brits broke through in 2000 with the album 'Parachutes'. Since then they have rubbed shoulders with U2, Oasis and Radiohead - bands that Coldplay is an obvious successor of with its grandiose arena rock and star-gazing ballads. A parade of hit singles and best-selling albums have kept Coldplay at the top of the game in the new millenium. Latest release is the EP 'Prospekt’s March' which came out shortly after the album 'Viva la Vida or Death and All His Friends'.

Coldplay have also just won the award of 'Best Act In The World Today' in the leading music magazine Q as well as 'World's Best Selling Recording Act' at the World Music Awards 2008.

Roskilde Festival has made a strong start with this first announcement. Several thousand festival-goers have already bought a ticket – even before the first band was announced! Many more exciting acts will be announced in the coming months.

This is just the beginning!

Wolfmother to play at the Clipsal 500

Remember that small little Australian band called Wolfmother? Well, after two of the three members packed their bags and left the band, lone survivor and frontman, Andrew Stockdale, has decided to continue on. The reincarnated Wolfmother (Phase 2 as its now known) are set to play a one-off show in March at the Clipsal 500 in Adelaide. Yep. V8 supercars.

After the dissolution of the original Wolfmother line-up after Splendour In The Grass 2008, there’s been little news on what’s to become of the band. On Sunday 22 March, though, Stockdale and his new personnel will headline the last of four after-race concerts. The other days are fronted by The Living End, The Presets and, weirdly enough, Lee Kernaghan.

“Wolfmother are working on version two,” trumpets the IMC newsletter. “There’s not much we can say right now. Adelaide will be the first to witness the second coming on March 22nd for the Clipsal 500.”

Ummm.......ok.

West Coast Blues 'n' Roots festival adds Jason Mraz

The already talent-heavy West Coast Blues ‘n’ Roots Festival lineup has just been beefed up. Heading the latest additions is frequent visitor Jason Mraz, whose latest album has become very popular, should go down a treat. 'We Sing. We Dance. We Steal Things' has sold more than 100,000 copies in Australia alone - the tenth highest selling album of 2008. Three 2009 Grammy Award nominations later and Mraz is surely on the international stage map by now.

Also appearing at the Fremantle Esplanade Reserve on Saturday 18 April will be local heroes Augie March and Bob Evans, Minnesota bluesman Charlie Parr, Kiwi blues-rock troupe Little Bushman and seriously dynamic nine-piece Labjacd. The bill is looking really good for a one-day festival. This new crop joins the likes of The John Butler Trio, Ben Kweller, Seasick Steve, Paul Kelly and Missy Higgins.

New line-up additions:

Jason Mraz
Augie March
Bob Evans
Charlie Parr
Little Bushman
Labjacd

This mighty fine list of talent joins (in full): The John Butler Trio, Missy Higgins, Zappa Plays Zappa (USA), Paul Kelly, Easy Star All-Stars (USA), Ben Kweller (USA), Tony Joe White (USA), Blue King Brown, Seasick Steve (USA), Eric Bibb (USA), The Special Beat (UK), Luka Bloom (Ireland), Blues Traveler (USA), C.W. Oasis to play at Benicassim festival

Oasis were today added to the headliners of this year's FIB Heineken Benicassim festival in Spain.

The indie band will join Kings of Leon, Paul Weller and Franz Ferdinand on the Benicassim stage for the four-day event in July. It will take place from July 16th – 19th on the east coast of Spain.

Organisers said more major acts would be announced soon but it was shaping up to be "the best festival in 2009".

Oasis released the album 'Dig Out Your Soul' in 2008. It honestly feels like it's the mid-late Beatles playing. At times even sounding like John Lennon when he went solo. However, it's not The Beatles, it's Oasis. It's Liam and Noel in full voice swinging. 'Dig Out Your Soul' is a worthy and recommended purchase for Oasis and even Beatles fans. Thinking about that sentence, that should basically be around 4 billion people.

Oh yeah and by the way, Oasis will be releasing their latest single 'Falling Down', arguably their best song on the new album, come March 9th.

Eddy Current Suppression Ring added to Roar Sounds

Eddy Current Suppression Ring will join the illustrious line-up for the upcoming 'Roar Sounds' event at Melbourne Zoo.

Eddy Current have just released a new EP, 'That Time of Day' and is limited to only 1000 copies. Considering that their second album 'Primary Colours' made some people's 'best of' lists, the EP will surely sell out in no time.

The Melbourne band have a simple, catchy formula that just seems to ooze energy on the dancefloor. The single is quite simply as raw and crinkle cut as you're going to get these days. Do yourself a favour, listen to their stuff and buy tickets. If you haven't seen them yet, you're an idiot.

Get in early at 5:30pm to check out the Zoo’s residents till 7pm. BYO food and drink (no glass besides wine bottles, please!) or buy it there. This event is all ages.

DON'T FORGET: You can still win tickets to see one of these gigs simply by subscribing to Music Universe now. Enter your email address into the box on the left hand side of the page and you could win a double pass to see lions, tigers and music, oh my!

ROAR SOUNDS AT MELB ZOO:
Thursday 5 February - Kate Miller Heidke (QLD) + The Verses
Thursday 12 February - Wolf & Cub (SA) + Van She (NSW)
Thursday 19 February – Eddy Current Suppression Ring + Support TBA
Thursday 26 February - Resin Dogs (QLD) Feat. N’fa (1200 Techniques) + Phrase + Alexx The Kidd

Razorlight to come back for V Festival

Hot off the press is the news that Razorlight will be returning to the Australian shores to perform at the V Festival.

They're currently about to hit Melbourne and Sydney for some intimate shows, however, the rest of Australia are missing out. Not to worry, they'll be back by April. In the meantime, for those not attending their sold out shows, get your hands on a copy of their new album 'Slipway Fires'. It may help whilst waiting for V Festival.

David Bowie making a comeback

In 2008 we were talking about Led Zeppelin making a comeback. Is 2009 going to be the year everyone talks about and possibly remembers as the year Ziggy Stardust came back to Earth?

Music Universe hears that Sir David Bowie may be resurrected at the Coachella Festival this year.

The success of Roger Waters performing the complete 'Dark Side of the Moon' last year has lead Coachella organizers on a search for another event of that caliber for this year. Music Universe believes it is Bowie who they are talking too.

Only last week, David Bowie was back in the studio recording his first album in more than 5 years. Yes. Bowie. New album. You hear right. However, since the end of his world tour for 2003’s ‘Reality’ album, Bowie suffered a minor heart attack and has been out of the public eye ever since. It was only last week when he announced on social networking website 'Twitter' that he was recording in Berlin, the city where he made the ‘Low’, ‘Lodger’ and ‘Heroes’ albums. Ground control to Major Tom, Bowie looks like he is coming back!

Coachella whispers also suggest that Paul McCartney has also been tapped to headline one of the nights. We'll, as always, keep you in the know.

The Strokes to record 4th album next month

The Strokes' drummer Fab Moretti revealed that the band have started work on their fourth album. Music Universe had grown impatient in recent times because of the delay between Strokes albums, but we are pleased this morning after reading this piece of news over our coffees and cigarettes.

Moretti told the BBC that frontman Julian Casablancas was writing songs for the record, which will be the follow-up to 2006's 'First Impressions of Earth'.

"Julian has started writing and Nick has got some material as well,” he said.

“We're the kind of band that it's not finished until everyone's in one room and everyone's got their parts perfectly. We're a very mechanical band."

The Strokes are expected to enter the studio next month to begin recording the album.

Triple J's Hottest 100 or should we say Predictable 100?

In case you weren't aware, or have no sense of time, yesterday was Australia day. So, happy Australia day! This also meant that it was Triple J's Hottest 100 day. As usual it was as predictable as Heath Ledger winning an Academy Award for 'The Dark Knight'. We at Music Universe didn't even bother listening to it this year. We thought we'd guess our top ten and see how we went after the program had finished. Boy were we close.

Kings of Leon won with 'Sex on Fire'. Too easy. Great song. But just obvious. MGMT made it into the top five twice (as did KOL). We predicted that. The Presets made it twice. We predicted that too. Empire of The Sun made it in and we thanked god for that. The others that rounded out the top ten were mildly predictable, but only because their had to be some hip-hop involved (Pez and Drapht). Don't get us wrong, we love all the bands in the top ten, we write about theem all the time, we're just saying that Triple J and their teenie boppers target audience are bland, predictable, monotonous and boring.

There were some surprises in this year's list. But none more so than TV On The Radio not getting one single song in the top 100. Their album, 'Dear Science', has been rated as one of the best albums of the year by almost everyone involved in music. How did they not get a mention? Just pure bewilderment. Pathetic by triple j and their fans too.

Upcoming tour of Australia will be The Streets final one

The Streets' upcoming Australian tour is a must see for every fan and in fact every one. For this upcoming tour will be a bit of a swansong for the Brit-rapper Mike Skinner.

Once hailed the "voice of a generation for his tales about life in the suburbs", Skinner is preparing to put down the microphone after almost a decade. Sad, but true.

The fourth Streets album, 'Everything is Borrowed', was released last year, and Skinner plans to deliver the fifth and final album this year.

He has already written 10 songs for it, and says it feels like the end of a chapter.

"I just think it will be a very tidy five albums and they'll all make sense as one thing, and then I'll just go on and do something else. I've been doing this kind of formula now for - well it will be nine or 10 years by the time I'm done - and it's been constant. I'm always going to have a lot going on. I don't think it will be sad for me," Skinner said.

Until then, Skinner is planning on making the most of his remaining time as The Streets, turning his live shows over the next year into celebrations.

He had to cancel a US tour planned for late last year because it wasn't financially viable, but is looking forward to hitting Australia's shores in February for a string of shows, including the Playground Weekender festival in NSW.

"All I want to do is cover the costs really, and I'm just a little bit more popular in Australia so the gigs are a bit bigger and it kind of works out," he said.

"The shows are the best they've ever been, they're so crazy. At the moment it does feel like the end, and the shows are fantastic."

On the last album Skinner made a rule that he would not mention modern life, and the result is a collection of his most philosophical songs.

On his final effort, the London-based 'geezer' is changing tack again.

"It's a lot more train of thought, this one," he said.

"When that works, you end up with really quite inspired-sounding twists and turns that I think people really like. The other side of that coin is that you don't end up with those really simple songs that I've been known for in the past."

Given his appetite for experimentation, his next career move is sure to be interesting.

"I'd like to make a film next," Skinner said.

"I've been studying screen writing for the whole time I've been doing The Streets really.

"If you listen to (second album) A Grand Don't Come For Free, that is very much drawn from screenwriting more than songwriting really."

As long Mike Skinner is still producing magic in some form, fans will be happy.

Dates for The Streets 'farewell' tour:

5th Feb - The Forum, Sydney NSW
6th Feb - The Tivoli, Brisbane QLD
9th Feb - HQ, Adelaide SA
10th Feb - Billboard, Melbourne VIC
13th Feb - Metro City, Perth WA

*The Streets will also be appearing at Playground Weekender
Del Rio Riverside Resort, Wiseman’s Ferry
Friday 6, Saturday 7, Sunday 9 February

Tame Impala announce national 'Skeleton Tiger' tour

As one of the hottest tips to experience great fame in 2009, Tame Impala, who have played at nearly every single festival this summer, have managed to climb the heights of public recognition a lot quicker than your average psych-rock band. They even got a write up in the most recent edition of British mag NME, where they were described as a 'next big thing'. We at Music Universe love them to death.

Well, whilst they edge closer and closer to world domination, the Perth three piece will embark on their extensive 'Skeleton Tiger' national tour next month. Late last year the winsome spirits behind Tame Impala, Kevin Parker (guitar and vocals), Dominic Simper (bass guitar) and Jay Watson (drums and vocals) released their hugely successful debut EP. 'Skeleton Tiger' is a downright spiritual experience, making the listener feel like they've been taken back to the late 60's, lying in a smoky room filled with bands, artists, filmmakers and groupies ... and listening to the sounds of experimental-psychedelic tunes.

Tour dates:

FRI 20 FEB - THE BARWON CLUB, GEELONG
SAT 21 FEB – THE KAROVA LOUNGE, BALLARAT
SUN 22 FEB – JIVE, ADELAIDE
THU 26 FEB – OXFORD ART FACTORY, SYDNEY
FRI 27 FEB – THE ZOO, BRISBANE
SAT 28 FEB – THE BAKERY, PERTH

Clap Your Hands Say Yeah breaking up???

There's something about the word 'yeah' today. Earlier we posted a news report on the Yeah Yeah Yeahs new album title, and now we're talking about Clap Your Hands Say Yeah 'taking a break'. Sorry, sorry, we'll get to the point of this news report now.

Yet again, a band has come out with a statement with the words "taking a break". When one hears these words, it usually doesn't bring about a nice outcome/future. So, when Clap Your Hands Say Yeah used those words yesterday, it's easy to understand now why we made the title of this article what it is.

However, according to management (and to possibly buy some time), Clap Your Hands Say Yeah have pushed back recording plans and don't have any shows organised post their Feb 13th gig at Brooklyn Academy of Music. But but but........they're not breaking up. Can you guess what they're doing? Yes. In the meantime, they're all working on side projects. Wow this seems like we've written this article repeatedly since we first began. We're going to copy paste this and just change the band name for future reference. Just saves us time.

Anyway, yeah.

Yeah Yeah Yeahs announce new album title

We've known for a while (or hoped) that tge Yeah Yeah Yeahs were caged up somewhere working on their third album. Well, we can confirm that now because this morning they posted a piece of news on their website about it. Namely, the title of the album.

According to the band, the album will be out this Spring or Autumn depending on which hemisphere you reside. Also, according to the raccoon with blood on its mouth, the next Yeah Yeah Yeah's album will be called 'It's Blitz'.

Nick Drake tribute album by Jack Johnson

Jack Johnson must feel he is connected to Nick Drake because they're both acoustic guitarists. He's probably right, because there ain't much else they have in common. Nevertheless, Jack has decided to put together a tribute album dedicated to enigmatic hippie songwriter Nick Drake. The likes of Eddie Vedder, Dave Grohl and Norah Jones have weighed in as well. Drake died in 1974 from an overdose on antidepressants, aged 26. His too-short career birthed three troubled and delicately beautiful albums that weren't recognised then, but have since gone on to earn cult status.

The tribute album, set to be released through Jack Johnson’s Brushfire Records, also includes a short film of late actor Heath Ledger simulating suicide to Drake’s song Black Eyed Dog. It was believed Ledger was developing a Drake biopic when he died last year of an accidental overdose. He made the Black Eyed Dog video for an art installation in 2007. We at Music Universe are looking forward to it so much that we've been playing Drake's albums all week. Oh yeah, we've also gone through a dozen boxes of Kleenex.

Junior Boys to release 'Begone Dull Care'

The Junior Boys are releasing their third album around April 7th.

I believe we mentioned this in an earlier article about new albums expected to arrive this year. Well, let's elaborate a bit on it coz some more details have just been released.

The J Boys had previously released 2 sensational albums which by the way are both immaculate and quite simply gorgeous. Let's hope they can make it 3 from 3.

The album's title will be 'Begone Dull Care' and "the title is a reference to a short film by the pioneering Oscar-winning Scottish-Canadian animator and electronic composer, Norman McLaren, who was a big influence on the conception and creation of this album," says a press release.

The tracks on the album are as follows:

'Begone Dull Care':

01 Parallel Lines
02 Work
03 Bits and Pieces
04 Dull to Pause
05 Hazel
06 Sneak a Picture
07 The Animator
08 What It's For

Can't wait for this one to hit the shelves (or land in our hands before the shelves).

'Roar Sounds' at Melbourne Zoo

'Roar Sounds' is the brand new series of live music events being held at the Royal Melbourne Zoo’s open-air arena. It will run every Thursday night in February.

It aslo gives one the chance to take a break from those smoke filled, sticky carpeted rooms to experiencing live music at one of the most adventurous places whilst basking in the summer warmth. This has to be said......lions and tigers and beers! Oh my!

Pete Doherty and Roger Daltrey team up

The Who`s Roger Daltrey joined Pete Doherty on stage earlier this week.

Daltrey and Doherty treated fans to a one-off gig last night in memory of a friend who died from cancer. The Who legend and the Babyshambles frontman got together on stage at Bristol's O2 Academy and dedicated the gig to Daniel Squires, 16, who struck up a friendship with the two singers before his death last year.

Daltrey, the 64-year-old rocker, had previously criticised Pete Doherty for his heavy drug use.

He said: "Watching Pete Doherty and all the stories about his drug-taking exploits is very sad. There's a bathroom floor waiting somewhere for him. He seems to have a death-wish and that is so incredibly dull - to think that's a cool and exciting thing."

The musicians performed a number of Who classics including 'Substitute' and 'Magic Bus' and drew a huge ovation from the crowd as they paid tribute to Squires, calling him "a special lad".

They were backed by the rest of Babyshambles throughout the gig, which aimed to raise awareness of Teenage Cancer Trust, with the group also performing a series of Johnny Cash covers part way through the gig.

The Zutons dropped from label

Yikes. The Zutons have been dropped by their record label.

The 'Why don't you come on over, Valerie' hitmakers have been dropped by Deltasonic after bosses at the label (which is part of Sony) were left unimpressed by sales of their last album 'You Can Do Anything'. The LP went to number six in the UK album chart when it was released last June. Let's be honest, they're debut album was their best album, their second had a few hits and their third, well, we at Music Universe didn't even bother listening to it.

A source told Britain's Daily Star newspaper this: "Expectations were unrealistically high when The Zutons came back from Los Angeles with their third album. 'Valerie' was being pumped out of every stereo around the world and they were being totally overshadowed by a song from their previous release. While it was great that it brought a bit of money in, the label wanted another song in the same style. The fact was that the group wanted to make a fresh start and were proud of what they'd recorded."

'Valerie' was the second single from the group's second album, 'Tired Of Hanging Around', and reached number nine in the UK singles chart. Although it is the band's biggest hit, it achieved worldwide success when Amy Winehouse and Mark Ronson released a version.

The group - Dave McCabe, Abi Harding, Russell Pritchard, Sean Payne and Paul Molloy - blame their label for the lukewarm response to their most recent album.

Dave has previously said: "We always wanted to release 'What's Your Problem' as the first single, not 'Always Right Behind You'. I'm not happy with the way the third album has gone. I wanted it to go to number one and sell millions. I'm gutted. I can't understand it - maybe it's just our time to fall out of favour."

Sad days for the Zutons. Hopefully they get picked up by another label and come back bigger and better than ever!

Damon Albarn talks new Gorillaz album

Blur and Gorillaz frontman, Damon Albarn, will take to the BBC this Wednesday night to play demos from the next Gorillaz album.

In true Gorillaz style, their fictional bass player character Murdoc Niccals is expected to be part of the interview.

Albarn started working on the third Gorillaz album with co-founder Jamie Hewlett at the end of last year.

Last September in an interview with CBS, Alban said, "we just learned more about what we do, musically and artistically. That's a great place to come at when we come to another Gorillaz album. It doesn't have to be animation and music."

But album three will be about animation. Hewlett says, "they'll be the same characters, but a little bit older and told in a different way."

It will be interesting to see which, if any, special guests will appear on the new record. Albarn says he wants "to work with an incredibly eclectic, surprising cast of people."

Damon will be on BBC 1 between 7pm and 9pm on Wednesday January 14 (London time).

Goldie Lookin Chain produce new album 'Asbo4Life'

Funny-ass Welsh hip hop crew Goldie Lookin Chain have returned to the music scene with their latest album, 'Asbo4Life' (due 6th April). The album will be preceded with a single, 'By Any Means Necessary', on 16th March.

The group will head out on a full UK tour in March in support of the album, but are set to play an unusual warm-up gig at Metro in London on 14th January. In typical GLC style, the show will be free to get into, but fans will be asked to cough up some cash if they want to leave at the end. Love it.

When asked what inspired the new album, the group's main writer, producer and mixer, Rhys Hutchings, aka P Xain, said: "Mainly curry, weed and the constant wish it was summer, especially during summer."

His hopes for the new single were similarly low-key. Asked about his ambitions for it, he said: "I would like to get the single, 'By Any Means Necessary', played in all the night clubs on the coast of Spain. If we could get it to be played in Fuengirola I would be well happy."

And how about some advice for anyone thinking of buying some Goldie Lookin Chain music? "Make sure your parents don't know about it. No matter how old you are, they won't approve".

For more on Goldie Lookin Chain and their laugh-till-you-drop music, then check out www.youknowsit.co.uk and www.myspace.com/goldielookinchain
