Today marks the 10th anniversary of the death of INXS frontman, Michael Hutchence. Michael Hutchence's died on November 22, 1997 in Sydney, Australia. The band had recently returned home to embark on a tour to promote their 'Elegantly Wasted" album. 37 year old Hutchence was found dead in a Sydney hotel room. He died from strangling in what looks like a sexual act gone wrong. While there was initial talk that the death was a suicide, the coroner fell short of a conclusion. Autoerotic Asphyxiation (the act of strangling yourself during sex) is a possible cause of his death.
Michael's stage presence was likened to those of mick Jagger and Jim Morrison. He dated the likes of singer, Kylie Minogue and supermodel, Helena Christiansen. In 1987, INXS released 'Kick', which was to become their most successful album. By 1989, they were playing in front of 75,000 people at London's Wembley Stadium, where they actually recorded a live performance "Live Baby Live". INXS were sensational.
A few years later, Michael met British personality, Paula Yates, with whom he would eventually have a daughter, Heavenley Tiger Lily Hutchence in 1996. His final years ended in bitter legal, custodial feuds with Sir Bob Geldof and dabbling too much in Prozac.
Hit singles such as "Need You Tonight", "New Sensation", "Never Tear Us Apart", "Mystify", "Suicide Blonde" and "Original Sin" will live on forever. Michael was a very special, sensitive, soul who is missed by many in the industry, including myself.
