Cat Power - aka Georgia, Atlanta born songstress Chan Marshall - returns to Australia this March for her first national tour since September 2003. And, although having toured select cities as a solo artist in June 2004, and with a makeshift pick up band as support to Nick Cave in May 2005, this is the first time Cat Power has performed in this country with her full-time band, Dirty Delta Blues.
In between the last visit to Australia and this upcoming tour, Cat Power has recorded and released arguably her greatest album, the award winning and suitably titled, The Greatest; appeared as a model and spokesperson for Chanel jewellery; lent her vocals to to recordings by Handsome Boy Modelling School, Faithtless, El-P and Dirty Three (amongst others), and performed at benefit concerts for PETA, Fuck Cancer and The Bereaved Israeli and Palestinian Parents' Circle. Currently, Chan is in India documenting the slums of Bangalore and Bangladesh and their lack of clean water and waste hygiene for the Charity: Water Organization. A cause that Cat Power have already showed support for via a charity show in NYC on December 17th of this year.
And although having been demonised on previous tours for her erratic stage behaviour, Cat Power returns to Australia this time brimming with good health and confidence.
