Both the Reading and Leeds festivals have until this year been branded by English lager Carling, but organisers have snubbed the ten year sponsor and will not be seeking a replacement.
"I wanted to reclaim the name Reading festival and the name Leeds festival," Festival Director Michael Benn told BBC 6 Music. "I wanted them to return to their roots, so to speak. I didn't want the events to be called after a sponsor. I'm not asking another sponsor to come in."
He doesn't make clear just how the festival is going to find the funding lost by losing their major sponsor, or what impact this will have on future festivals.
