Jamye Waxman, an employee at New York sex-store Babeland, had what she described as a "New York moment" yesterday when R.E.M. turned up to use his store as the location for a video shoot.
At her blog, Waxman writes "I had an "only in NY" moment that I need to share. I mean, it's not every day that you can call up your friends and say "So I was working at Babeland yesterday when Michael Stipe and the rest of R.E.M. stopped by to sing," but yesterday, that was totally something I could, and did, say".
Waxman, somewhat of a R.E.M. novice, seemed quite surprised that the band even still existed. "Yes it's true, R.E.M., the band that seems to have gone bye-bye (or at least stopped releasing new albums) at least a few years ago, is back, and if the single from last night is any indication of the future of their music, let me just say I'm hooked," she wrote.
R.E.M. was filming the video for the track 'Supernatural Serious', the first single from the forthcoming 'Accelerate' album.
The album is due on April 1st in the USA and March 31st in the rest of the world.
R.E.M. will launch the album with a showcase gig at Stubbs B-B-Q in Austin during SxSW.
